Fibromyalgia’s tender points are really points of energy blockage that can be cleared by acupuncture, acupressure, craniosacral therapy, and energetic unwinding of the spine, joints & muscles.
The meridians are energy pathways, carrying primal energy into every cell, tissue, organ, and structure of the body. This energy is fundamental to all processes of the body, including the body’s own energy production when it converts food into energy. In other words, without this primal energy, there is no life in any form, including human.
Connective tissue changes affect the flow of energy in meridians.
The energy pathways, called meridians, are enveloped by fascia (a form of connective tissue), which also weaves through and envelops every cell, tissue, organ, and every other structure of the body, including blood vessels, lymph vessels, and nerves.
The connective tissue, which varies from gel like to hard as bone, traps many of the foreign substances that enter our bodies via the skin (lotions, sprays, chemicals), the lungs (cigarette smoke, air pollution), and digestive system (food additives, sodas, pesticide residues, medications, etc), sort of like a spider’s web. It eventually becomes sticky, distorted, and loses its elasticity and resilience.
Trauma to the body (including surgery) compresses, stretches, distorts, and disrupts this connective tissue. Eventually, the connective tissue becomes a straight jacket that puts a stranglehold on all the structures that it contains.
Nerve conduction, blood flow, lymph flow, and energy flow become impaired. We experience this as pain, fatigue, mental fog, tightness in the muscles and joints, and disrupted sleep, as well as an increased susceptibility to illness.
Fibromyalgia is not the mystery we think it is. It can be resolved.
Here are a few easy ways to help the body ease the energy traffic congestion.
Lifestyle changes are key.
- Fast food, sodas, heavily processed foods are major irritants in your body and cause major irritation to all the body structures, including the fascia. Cook your own food so you know what’s in it and what ends up in your body. Water should be the main fluid that enters your body.
- Spend plenty of time outdoors everyday to get fresh air into your lungs. This increases their vitality and ability to transfer oxygen to the capillaries for transport to the body’s tissues.
- Do some form of gentle exercise every day to help move the blood and lymph for oxygen and nutrient transport as well as toxin elimination. Try yoga, tai chi, gi gong, simple stretches in the a.m. and p.m., or walking. Walking should really be part of your daily activities.
- Get plenty of sleep at night. The body does most of its repair and maintenance when it is in the parasympathetic mode while you’re asleep.
Acupuncture and acupressure help to re-establish the energy flow by accessing the meridians’ acupoints.
Craniosacral therapy releases the restrictions in the connective tissue, and its stranglehold on the meridians and other structures.
Energetic unwinding of the spine, joints & muscles does both, combining acupressure with craniosacral therapy and soft tissue work.
